One late afternoon when my dietician friend and I met, she told me a lot about the cancer patients in her hospital. She told me that if only these people ate the right foods, then they might not be suffering any grave ailment today. I don't understand what my friend is saying since I'm an ignoramus when it comes to health and science. This is the reason I majored in Literature and not Biology or any science courses. She told me that the food we intake can actually be the cause of cancer. It's really better to be conscious about the foods that we should not eat since they can cause cancer.
I asked my friend if it's okay to eat delicious seafood recipe, she said that it's okay since it has low saturated fat which is good for the body. I felt relieved since I'm a seafood addict. My friend also told me that it's not bad to eat fats as long as you eat the right ones -- like unsaturated fat. It's also better to take a lot of fiber foods like pineapple. This will lower the risk for colorectal cancer. It is also advisable to eat many raw vegetables and fruits. She also told me that it's good to eat soy products, which contain a lot of protein that is good for the body. In fact, it has lots of protein as compared to meat.
I was astonished to find out that what we eat can also be the cause for having cancer. I am very thankful to my friend because she informed me about this piece of info. Starting today, I will watch my diet to avoid cancer.

Gail who is diagnosed with a possible breast cancer is having difficulty balancing her diet requirements. Like me, she used to like a lot of spicy foods. Now, tacos and burritos are a no-no but she's been doing her best to incorporate non-dangerous (and even helpful) grubs such as soy beans in her diet. For instance, she makes non-spicy spaghetti but cooks up taco fillings along with it. The taco filling contains soy that helps prevent the spread of breast cancer.

She told me it's no longer a myth. I learned from diligent cancer patients that soy beans in the diet does deter the spread of deadly cancer cells. The only trouble is, you would have to be pre-menopausal. This is because the natural chemicals in soy are anti-estrogen which prevent the buildup of the hormones in the breast receptors. If you were post-menopausal, on the other hand, the "phytoestrogens" can work against you, since they can supply you with estrogen that is lacking in your
body.

Now, let's go to the yummy part. How can anyone with the deadly breast cancer still enjoy the taste of tacos without worrying about the aftermath of eating them? The secret is in adding the pork crumbles in the tacos as filling. You can still enjoy this savory southwestern dish while keeping the balance in your bodily hormones. The soy in your food can maintain the equilibrium if you follow the amount required by your dietitian.

Lowering fat intake is said to produce significant low risk to breast cancer recurrences, especially in women who were treated for an early condition of breast cancer and also those who are in their postmenopausal stage.
A study that is sponsored by Women's Intervention Nutrition Study, showed the relative influence of dietary fat to women who were diagnosed of breast cancer. The said research lasted for five years and included more than 2,000 women at the age of 48 to 79. The subjects were then placed on a low fat diet, with an average of about 30 grams of fat in their daily meals. In addition, all subjects have a record of an early stage breast cancer and were also treated with the same treatments, which include lumpectomy radiation, post surgical treatments, and mastectomy. At the end of the study, subject women who were all in a low fat diet, showed a risk reduction in breast cancer recurrence. All women who were on the said low fat diet and were previously treated with nonestrogen-dependent cancer, had a more than 42 percent reduced recurrence risk compared to those who were following healthy diets.
Furthermore, researchers of the said study claim that the outcome of their study poses a significant observation in the field of breast cancer. The data that they have produced demonstrated a big importance in considering the daily dietary factors of cancer patients.

I have always liked munching on tomatoes. I remember when I was just a kid, I always ask for tomatoes from the fruit vendors, (even if they don't have one) whenever I accompany my mom to the market. Now that tomatoes are up for discussion in this entry, I will further elaborate the benefits from eating tomatoes.
Previous and recent studies show that Lycopene, which is known to be found in tomatoes, is proven to be effective in reducing the possibility of acquiring cancer, particularly Prostate Cancer, and other diseases. Medical evidences say that people who eat considerable large amount of lycopene have a lower possibility of acquiring prostate cancer. In a particular study about prostate cancer, medical researchers studied lycopene's blood level and they discovered that the potential risk of acquiring the said disease has decreased when lycopene levels are increasing. Researchers also associated the significance of low Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), since if PSA level decreases, the potential of prostate cancer is adamant.
Moreover, it is said that Lycopene found in tomatoes will be much welcomed by our body if these are processed tomatoes. Hence, it is best to add tomatoes in our healthy eating diet to secure low possibility of acquiring or developing prostate cancers.

There are many news reports bombarding our television saying that water can cure cancer. That issue may somehow be true since water is a universal solvent and it can help fight other diseases as well. We have water therapy for colds and flu, so water therapy for cancer can be possible.
However, I was astounded by the news stating that salt can cure cancer. No way. No offense meant for those who believe on the said report. But personally, if salt will cure cancer, it will give you kidney disease in return. Now, that's what I call the real tried and tested information.
I believe that to be able to get rid of cancer and hopefully other diseases as well, all of us must follow a strict healthy, balanced diet. This type of diet contains all you can eat in the food groups. A balance diet simply means eating enough and not eating more than what you can chew. As always, too much of the good thing is a bad thing. On the other hand, too much of the bad thing is the worst thing. Eat the right amount of fruits, vegetables, meat, bread, milk, cheese, other dairy products, fish, chicken, root crops and legumes. Of course ditch drinking alcohol, smoking and using drugs. Aside from the diet, you should also give your time some exercise to maintain a healthy body. With this in mind, you don't have to worry about the attack of the killer C.

I know so many people who have prostate cancer. It's very prevalent, worldwide. In Australia, it is the third cause of cancer death for men. Prostate cancer usually develops at a mature age. Many people do not know how prostate cancer could be prevented. This cancer is one of the most common cancers that men and women develop in their adult years. So, what are the right foods to eat and what is the best regular diet to stay away from prostate cancer?
Many nutritionists strongly suggest soy for people who have the tendency to develop prostate cancer. Soy would definitely decrease your chances of developing prostate cancer. Of course, there are fruits and vegetables that is the best diet for everyone. Lycopene that is found in tomatoes, tomato products, strawberries, and watermelons is the best antioxidant for the body. Even without the risk of prostate cancer, you should include these products in your daily diet. Products such as animal fat, fast foods, high-calorie dairy products, and high-fat foods would most probably increase your risk for prostate cancer. So, the best way to avoid the risk of prostate cancer is to start eating healthy, now.

Breast cancer is very much prevalent in today's society. Women of mature age have the tendency to develop breast cancer. Sadly, there's no specific way to prevent breast cancer from developing in a woman's body. But, what women can do is to stay healthy so that the percentage of acquiring breast cancer would be lessened. Of course, not all women are bound to get breast cancer. It's just best to be safe and healthy.
For all the women, the proper healthy food diet is the initial step to prevent breast cancer. You need not take tons of medication to be healthy. All you need is the right food and of course, a healthy exercise workout to enhance your bodies' circulation. A good diet plan includes whole grain rice, whole grain bagels, whole grain cereals, and everything else whole grain. Ditch your white rice and opt for whole grain foods. Everyday, you should also include beans in your diet. Beans are a good source of fiber. You should also eat a considerable amount of nuts in a week for another source of fiber. Of course, the healthiest of them all are fruits and vegetables. Select the fruits that have cancer-fighting phytochemicals. You should make it a point to eat a lot of fruits each day. Nine servings of fruits and vegetables each day would really keep you away from cancer.

Perhaps one of the common questions that cancer patients ask to their doctors is their diet. Medically, the food being taken into the system has an effect to the recuperation of cancer patients. Also, food can lead to a lot of complications making matters worse for patients. However, doctors have found out one important food for patients and believe it or not, the soy.
Basically, the soy is an important kind of bean that has agents that help in the neutralization of cancer cells. In fact, several nutritionists have suggested that even non cancer patients should take some dose of soy. It may look to be ordinary; soy is one of the healthiest foods. It may not totally cure cancer, but at least the growth of the cancer cells will be limited.

They say that for cancer patients nothing is simpler and more natural when it comes to diet than eating seafood.
Many cancers are healed by water and salt cures but the reason why seafood works as a treatment is that they contain trace minerals from the sea. It has been found that an imbalance of trace minerals in the diet is the cause of many human diseases. Seafood contains the entire range of 72 trace minerals required by the body. Our daily food, in contrast, contains only 8 of them.
Any kind of seafood is rich in trace mineral such as seaweeds (e.g. Kombu, Wakame, Agar agar, Nori). They balance the body's nutrients on a cellular level, preventing the onset of many incurable diseases such as some forms of cancer.

Avoiding cancer is something that must be included in one's list. This can be done by eating a healthy diet, which includes increasing fiber intake like pectin.
Pectin is considered as soluble fiber. This type of fiber may be found in apples, lemons, oranges, and grapefruits. Ingesting food rich in pectin may help keep the cancer doctors at bay. Also, pectin when used with clay kaolin is helpful in controlling diarrhea. The said fiber is oftentimes sold in as a supplement to help decrease cholesterol levels.
Fatty acids are formed when pectin is fermented in a person's intestines. The acids then decrease the presence of harmful bacteria. Furthermore, the fatty acids help nourish the linings of the intestines, which then becomes resistant to cancerous elements.

There are many causes of cancer, and most of them are avoidable. A good diet, proper exercise and avoidance of certain substances will greatly decrease your chances of getting certain cancers.
And one of these substances is alcohol. Studies have shown that regular drinking and consumption of alcohol (even as little as 2 drinks a day for men and 1 drink a day for women) can dramatically increase the risk of developing certain forms of cancer.
An occasional drink or two is fine, but excessive drinking, on a daily basis no less, is surely asking for trouble. Even without the cancer risk.

Often, after surgery for cancer, a doctor will prescribe a full liquid diet for the patient, particularly if the surgery is in the stomach or intestine area. This is so that the stomach or intestine will not be as hard-pressed to digest food. As far as food goes, liquids are among the easiest to absorb within the body, and this is why to prevent straining the digestive system, full liquid diets are given to post-operative patients.
A full liquid diet is meant to be easily digested and therefore contains little or no solids. Soups, broths, juices and other liquid foods are what are recommended for those undergoing the full liquid diet.
Sunday, June 25. 2006
A clear liquid diet, as the name would suggest, consists of ingesting only liquids, soups included, that one can see through. It does not mean that colorless food and drink are your only option, for example, cranberry juice, although colored, is a see-through liquid, and therefore allowed.
In a clear liquid diet you can consume clear fruit juces, tea, clear sodas, and of course, water. Foodstuffs that are allowed are gelatin, hard candies, clear soups and broths and honey.
Doctors recommend this type of diet only for the short term. It is used mainly as a preparation for cancer tests, usually including blood testing.

A man suffering prostate cancer, especially if he is a real "macho" type of man, is in for a rude awakening. After all, prostate cancer is often perceived as a disease that men who don't have sex often get. And no "macho" man will admit that he doesn't get some every now and then.
But there is more to the development of prostate cancer than just having or not having sex. There are many factors responsible for prostate cancer, and some even develop it even if they have a healthy sex life.
The first step in the treatment of this type of cancer is a change in lifestyle. that means being more active, less consumption of salt, alcohol and caffeine, and a regularization of a diet.
A patient will have to learn how to eat healthy now, avoiding excess fat in his diet and eating more grains, fruits and vegetables, along with the Bush family's culinary nemesis: Broccoli. This vegetable has remarkable cancer fighting properties, especially against prostate cancer. Doctors recommend a diet more green than red for cancer patients; it's up to the sufferer to choose what color he likes.
