Several approaches to treating cancer in any form have been given serious consideration. One of these is the use of hypnosis which, at present, has not really produced sufficient evidences to warrant its effectiveness in helping patients get rid of the disease. However, it is gradually being availed of by a lot of cancer patients, especially when the high cost of treatment is considered, which
most ordinary people simply cannot afford.
Nevertheless, hypnosis, or more specifically, the use of positive visualization, has been recorded as an effective technique in assisting cancer patients deals with the pain associated with chemo and radiation therapies which are often used in destroying
cancer cells. It is more generally considered as a form of complementary therapy designed to complement or accompany an ongoing treatment for a cancer patient and not necessarily to replace it. This is opposed to alternative therapies which are viewed more as an optional method to treat cancer when the more traditional means prove to be ineffective.
Scientific data about hypnosis actually helping cure cancer is not in existence at the moment. However, there are studies that tend to indicate that hypnosis, along with visualization and other forms of relaxation, have greatly aided cancer-stricken people become more relaxed, enabling them to cope with their treatment, although doctors usually advise people with cancer to first seek medical advice before trying an untested method like hypnosis. In general, however, health professionals agree that as a complementary method, hypnosis and visualization can offer help for suffering cancer patients.
